Girl Group Herstory Mix

I’ve been doing a deep dive on Girl Groups, and I blame Sasha Geffen.

Sasha Geffen is an incredible writer and music journalist who wrote the book I received for Christmas this year; Glitter Up the Dark: How Pop Music Broke the Binary, and also the Vinyl Me Please booklet that came with my new copy of Labelle’s 1974 album Nightbirds. If you like reading about music history from a queer lens, I highly recommend their work.

Long story short, I found myself working on a history mix of girl groups starting with the Shirelles and ending with Destiny’s Child. This mix could be much longer, and I still may make an hour version that covers more groups of the 80s in particular, but for now please enjoy this 25 min mix of Girl Group Herstory on Mixcloud.
